My boss, with no software development experience or experience leading software teams, has decided without talking to any of us how long certain things should take. Surprise, my team is not hitting those deadlines. Disabusing him of this notion is not something I'm looking forward to today.
@AI78 In my first pro job in the mid-90s, I had to explain to my manager, at length, that 3 people, none of whom had any particular education in the field, were not going to get useful NLP working, especially on individual Spark Stations, probably at all and certainly in any reasonable time frame. Happily, she backed down before I did.
@00pi he and I had a chat. I think we have a better understanding now. Not out of the woods, but I impressed upon him that the best way through this was focus, not getting everyone all riled up. When we're through this initial hump, we're going to sit back down with the team, have a scoping session and estimate session. And I'm going to build in time because bugs happen.
