No matter who you are or where you come from, most likely your hair--or lack thereof--is your identity. Black, brown, blonde, curly, straight, long, short; we spend a lot of time & money on it. But how many of us know anything about Dreadlocks?
As a bald white guy, the only thing I knew about dreads is that I think they're cute. What I learned is that dreads have been around for thousands of years

In case it's not evident, there's a link to a brief history of Dreadlocks in the post above.

I'm reposting it here because, for some reason, the preview isn't showing up.

Where Did Dreadlocks Originate? The True History of Dreadlocks curlcentric.com/where-did-drea

@ADignorantium I don't think it's fair to say dreadlocks originated in Egypt, rather that that is as far back as we can date them. It is likely more accurate to say they originated somewhere in sub-Saharan Africa at a time unknown because there is no written or artistic history to back it up.

@Iskios I think we forget how far back Egyptian history goes but yeah, even Ebony magazine points out that “Dreadlocks can be traced to just about every civilization in history." This according to Chimere Faulk, an Atlanta-based natural hair stylist and owner of Dr. Locs, who goes on to say, “No matter the race, you will find a connection to having dreadlocks for spiritual reasons.”
