We were in the midst of a global pandemic.
This was used as another wedge dividing the public. This time between those who believed in science and those who believed in politicians.
The economy nearly collapsed because of this.
It would have suffered either way, but prolonging the pandemic, had dire consequences. How many people died unnecessarily because they were told that they really didn't need to wear masks? How many sick days taken?

People pontificate.
Humans are tribal.
And nothing changes

A politician, in his final moments as a country leader, told a crowd to go fight, deftly not using definitive language, but making the point he wanted them to fight to keep him in office.
They then fought.
And he watched. Not saying a word for hours.
A single statement could have stopped them.
