Important thread on electronic locks.

They're easily defeated (they don't take physical security as seriously as traditional locks) and when they malfunction, there may be some serious safety issues (think being trapped inside during a fire)

@0x56 I've always viewed electronic locks as a convenience item.
My step dad once boasted that his desk was impenetrable. So I broke into it in about 1 min 30 seconds. I had every drawer open.
I was in the 5th grade. It was a very expensive desk.

@Ocherokee - they are a matter of convenience, but they are too easily defeated for my liking. The worst case I've seen is the one where you could open it by yelling "Alexa, unlock the front door" through a window.

The fact that they aren't hardened against physical attacks is disturbing. (I didn't realize this before)
