Any peeps around?

Background - the Mrs & I are planning to move from the to in the next year or so. We were hoping to build a house in Vermont but holy land taxes Batman 🤯 Also supply chain issues, & interest rates. Ugh.

So now we're considering buying an existing home in Maine.

Any tips for areas to look? We'd like small acreage, close-ish to a decent population centre, & internet that isn't dial-up or satellite. We're quiet, geeky, introverts looking for a sanctuary.

@kaehlys I just did this recently. I had kids, so school district was a consideration. You can definitely find affordable if you are looking outside top school districts. Internet is going to be good in most communities in Southern and mid-coast Maine, but I would look for a fiber provider, rather than cable.

@kaehlys While Portland is the main population center, Brunswick/Topsham and Camden/Rockland are decent sized. Augusta and Bangor are other options. Some of the smaller peninsula towns are really nice and not super pricey: Boothbay Harbor, Bristol/Damariscotta/Newcastle, etc..

@wyrmeboi We're good with either fibre or cable, but we do lean a little more towards cable because we're already established Xfinity customers.

Definitely not a deal breaker though if Xfinity isn't available but fibre is.
