Adding my (unsolicited) two-cents worth to making Daylight Savings Time permanent year-round... IMHO, we would be better off staying on Standard Time. We tried year-round DST as an experiment in 1974 and it failed, badly. Most of those advocating this are not old enough to remember, but I do. I was a freshman in college and my 8 a.m. class STARTED before sunrise. In SC. That sucks.
@whoHearer Was that just your state? I don't remember that. I was in school, a junior, but I always had to get up early while it was dark to catch the bus at 5:30! It was the shits!
@IrieDeby I'm pretty sure it was nationwide, though my memory of things 48+ years ago is faded, to say the least. There is a Wikipedia article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time_in_the_United_States#:~:text=On%20February%209%2C%201942%2C%20President,the%2030th)%20in%20September%201945.
@whoHearer Thanks for the info, who! It was interesting. It didn't last long, and it sounds like they cut it short too! You have a great memory!
@whoHearer Time change really fucks me up, especially the spring one. During winter, I start working before sunrise anyways. I'd rather have the extra hour of daylight at night than in the morning. I don't believe we had the 1974 experiment around here. I'd remember.
@Incorect20 not sure where you lived, but here's a Wikipedia article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time_in_the_United_States#:~:text=On%20February%209%2C%201942%2C%20President,the%2030th)%20in%20September%201945.
@whoHearer
1974 was end of Jr year, beginning of HS Sr yr; I was playing lacrosse as the sun moved south that fall.
Was this *nationwide*? I can't remember it (yet).
😅
@zenmudprod This article helped jog my memory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time_in_the_United_States#:~:text=On%20February%209%2C%201942%2C%20President,the%2030th)%20in%20September%201945.
@whoHearer I remember when they did that. Totally failed. Kids going to school in the dark. We should stay on standard.
@whoHearer I agree, use standard or leave it as is
