I'm preparing for making my first dorodango - shiny mud dumpling. I'm breaking down and sifting the dirt, picking out rocks and twigs. This hard, clumpy stuff and this fine powdery stuff are the same dirt.

I hope I'll enjoy the process and keep making them. The ingredients are dirt, water, and patience. I like the idea of being able to present a handful of dirt in a way that will be recognized as beautiful. It's already beautiful to me.

@weirdfizz Do you need a special kind of dirt? High clay content?
( just in case any of us are following along at home👀)

@KarenSohne Clay is actually really good because it bonds together and gives the finished ball the shine. From what I've read, if clay content is too high you can add other things. But more sandy soil often needs clay added. So it's kind of about finding a good balance.

@weirdfizz Actually, if l can make one smallish pinecone wreath this year for christmas ( for us) l'll be happy. I have a bunch of pinecones and already have a gluegun, so it should be possible
