Over the past few years, we have had some students in my district be removed from music classes because the immam at a certain mosque has taken they stance. The vast majority of our Muslim students patriciate in music.
I have met people in certain Christian denominations who think all music is blasphemous also. They claim to follow scripture, but they are clearly ignoring Psalms.

In major Christian denominations any instrument other than the voice was forbidden in worship. That is where the term 'a cappella' comes from - it literally means 'as in a chapel'.

Man, my folks put up with alot from me.
Heavy metal , punk music.
Dad used to say- "How can you listen to that noise?"
Me- "Its quite easy Dad, like this!" turns it up.
But i also liked ABBA, Jesus Christ superstar and Beethoven.

Yup, and the Christians and Muslims that don't want their kids to be taught music take their kids out of class no big deal because we have freedom of religion. Sigh, they don't get to destroy other people's instruments. This is a hard concept for some of my neighbors even now.

My Dad bought me more albums and took my friends and I to even more concerts .... Lol. He wanted to expand our appreciation. I miss my dad 😢
@voltronic @AkomoCombine @Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine i have a friend who joined a fundamentalist church. singing is required because apparently they interpret something in the bible as saying so, but instrumental accompaniment is not allowed because pianos and organs aren't mentioned.

I know Muslims right here in Canada that arent like this either and we too have Immans / pastors that are quickly running out of good faith with Canadians.
Fundamentalism from ANY denomination is a threat to peace and fabric of our societies.
