@WeThePeople Haven't seen the show, but the criticism is true. "Hillbillies" are horribly, incorrectly stereotyped pretty much every time they're presented in media. It's lame.
Lived in the foothills of Appalachia my whole life, and am a descendant of those Scots (and Irish) so yeah, I completely agree. The real "hill folk" are some of the toughest, wisest, and nicest people you can meet.
I think modern writers (and maybe people in general) don't know the difference between them and rednecks, or "white trash".

It's beyond lame, it horrendous. I grew up as a kid in the south, and so called Hillbillies are simply an extreme version of southerners, I've known Hill People, and they have a rich history which dates back before the American Revolution to the Scots who Fled the English King
It's like watching Jerry Lewis do his Chinaman character all over again
it needs to be off the air and an official apology issued
