I *hate* when jobs expect me to socialize with my co-workers and my boss. It's a way for them to try and make employees feel like they owe the company something more than what they're paid for.
I had co-workers who resented me for it, and literally worked against me for not being more social.
@tyghebright That does not surprise me at all.
It's almost like those environments are designed to make people think they have to fight over scraps.
ya think? 😜
@thewebrecluse @tyghebright
I do! : )
Exactly.
And most people internalize the dynamic so much they're not conscious of it.
@tyghebright @thewebrecluse It is very surreal to be a person with no sense of peer pressure when it happens. You look around, and it's like everyone around you has been hypnotized.
@tyghebright @thewebrecluse I don't like the attempts at forced socialization.
If you need to force your employees to be around each other, who is doing the hiring, anyway?
And since when is my personal play time also company play time? I don't go there to play. If I liked someone enough to see them outside the office, I would.
@tyghebright God yes. I haven't worked outside of my home since 2007 or so ... maybe earlier but I don't miss the corporate grooming and forced participation at all. The madness and the backstabbing and the nonsense just never sat well with me.
