Why can't this country bring Appalachia up to actual living wages, proper infrastructure, better schools, better medical treatment, and better infrastructure? Why does the federal and state government allow fellow Americans to suffer in this country? This is such a simple problem to solve for our country, and if we do it here we can do it in every place in this country that is living in 3rd world standards.
@CinnamonGirlE @tw33k likely, as well, too many don’t vote…
@webgyreuser @tw33k
True.
@tw33k partially because the politicians in WV, OH, KY are owned by the companies that are culprits.
@tw33k because the world over it’s easy to find someone who will fuck over their peers for personal benefit. The machinery of capitalism knows this intimately, and doesn’t care about anything but profits and growth.
@MookyTroubadour @tw33k: The same things happened in very Communist China and all over the former Eastern Bloc. It's not just a "It's Capitalism" thing. It's a human nature thing.
It also goes way back to the original Thirteen Colonies, and it's not to do entirely about slavery. The North and South were often at each other's throats, much like the North and South of England. It's very "Town vs Country".
Coal country ... when the industry goes, the jobs, wages and standard of living goes too. The people need to know who has their backs tho.
@tw33k most of the rural South needs that. Actually, the rural anywhere.
@tw33k Good question. It's really screwed up. And you deserve better.
@tw33k
Honestly? Because these communities, small rural places seem to elect representatives who vote against their interest again and again. At least that is what I have seen. Not that it's okay either way.
