I remember in the movie there was a line Schmendrick had that stayed with me for a long time ... he was explaining what the Red Bull was and kind of rambling different theories: one was that it was a ghost, another was that it was a tool of King Haggard, and another was that it was the bull that kept Haggard prisoner in his own castle ... and I remember that last one was the one that I believed more than anything else because I believed the bull to be a manifestation of Haggard's true self.
The Red Bull drove all the beauty, all the love ... to the ends of the earth ... drowning it essentially (though not really) but that was such a powerful idea for me and rendered beautifully by Rankin Bass's Japanese animation studio ...
The Red Bull, to me, was the manifestation of what everyone actually was ... everyone existed in this madness where they wanted to destroy everything they couldn't claim for themselves.
I learned that as early as elementary school and it's still true today.
