It would be hard to put Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton in any film and have it be bad. Pedro Almodóvar is a genius so ... this is a no brainer of a masterpiece 👍🏾
@MLClark I couldn't say. It's based on an English language book so I don't imagine there will be much different about how it comes across. Pedro's style and vision will come through on it's own no matter the language.
What I'm keen to see is how that deft touch he has with the stories that don't end so much as divert, wander, and flow, in keeping with the natural strangeness of existence, will translate into a language context far more used to purpose-driven storylines.
I *know* he'll capture the weave of the source text well. It's just going to be interesting to see how it "hits" in a language context so used to tidier lives and "tighter" plots. :) #Soon!
@MLClark based on the description of the book and the reviews I've read of it's content ... it seems to match very well with his flow and narrative style.
@MLClark Sigrid Nunez seems like quite an amazing voice all on her own.
😂 I was just going through her catalogue myself! Definitely going to pick up one of these books for the general mood of her worlds before watching this film - but not the source text itself. I don't want to get distracted from whatever Almodóvar decides to do with it!
@MLClark Same!
Oh wow.
This also is visually stunning. His work always is, but this has a crispness that's a little different.
The scene of with the house in the background looks so much like Wyeth's Christina's World that it must be intentional.
I love when a new Almodóvar comes out, because it always leads me to rewatching some of his other works first.
I can't think of another "high art" director whose work I've rewatched so often, but I just love losing myself in his theories of life, memory, and notions of the self.
@MLClark @tyghebright ❤️ ❤️ truth
@thewebrecluse
SO THERE with you. ❤️ Any new Almodóvar is an excuse to drop and run for it, but this cast is going to be exceptional. I can't wait to see how his cadence of storytelling plays out in an English-lang context.
