#Blackdot announced its official launch out of stealth, unveiling its patented automated tattooing platform and opening up bookings for the first Blackdot tattoos at its flagship studio in Austin, Texas.
Blackdot is the first automatic tattooing device and online marketplace of its kind, making art that was previously out of reach as a tattoo now accessible. The platform delivers an unmatched opportunity for intricate self-expression with minimal discomfort.

By combining hardware, software and cloud technology, Blackdot allows artists the world over to have their designs executed as tattoos.
Artists who collaborate with Blackdot can control the supply of their work, allowing for limited edition collections to be offered. Designs are stored in a secure cloud that can be accessed at any Blackdot Studio, and the company utilizes blockchain technology to track tattoo execution. Each time an artist’s design is used they earn a royalty from it.

Blackdot is offering custom tattoos from its first Blackdot Certified Artist (BCA), Tyler Hobbs, a breakout generative art star and NFT pioneer.
Blackdot will also offer limited edition collections from renowned Turkish tattoo artist Omer Tunca and limited release art from John Craig, the visual artist behind the iconic cover art for The Smashing Pumpkins’ diamond double-album—Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Blackdot’s device uses a small number of concealed test dots to “learn” the client’s skin characteristics.
The test dots are compared against Blackdot's skin database to determine which settings (number of punctures and puncture depth) will yield the perfect black dot for that client’s preferred tattoo location.
Paired with a dedication to top-tier customer service, the result is a fast, accurate tattooing experience with minimal discomfort.

I hate to sound like a traditionalist ... but I am wondering what is the point of getting a PAINLESS tattoo and what is tattoo art WITHOUT the actual human artist who creates it by hand on your body?
Getting a tattoo is ... different for everyone but in a traditional sense a rite of passage, a representation of something deeper ...
I dunno ... something about it doesn't sit right with me and I LOVE and embrace almost all tech. This just ... feels off.
I can't put it into words.
The tech is amazing and I love the idea of artists getting compensated for their ARTWORK of course but you're removing the tattoo artist and making tattoos just about the art in a remote sense. Like ... why would you want the EXACT, literally EXACT tat that someone else has? Machine made ... it loses something so deeply a part of what getting a tattoo is all about.
I dunno ... I can't express this well at all ...
@thewebrecluse For me personally, the pain is part of the tattoo experience. The endorphins released after a tattoo is quite a rush.😉 And you're left with this awesome piece of artwork on your skin. But that's just me.🤷 I get what you're saying though.
@mistressticia Pain is a HUGE part of the process. For me not just because of the rush though I understand some people really thrive on and need that ... I just mean in a more traditional sense especially if you look at indigenous peoples and African tribes ... the pain is an important rite of passage from childhood to adulthood or into rising up in the caste of the village etc ... the pain of getting ascended into a new place and marked as such etc etc ... without it ... it's just ...
