My stepmother used to say that to me a lot. I would share something that happened to me and she would respond “I don’t believe that”. Like I was lying about it happening.
I eventually quit telling her anything of substance.
"I don't believe that."
There is SO much power in that sentence isn't there? It's so simple. So final. So absolute. The denial is so concrete.
She taught my half sister (her daughter) to say it too. I finally can step over the rage and just walk away when she says it now.
I don’t care what she believes.
