Me: I really don’t like competitive games. I prefer cooperation, or just doing my own thing and not worrying about what anyone else is doing.

Also me: *doing Duolingo* Uh-oh, that guy is in second place just a few points behind me with one hour left to go. Probably hoped I wouldn’t notice. Not on my watch, sucker! *finishes a bunch of lessons in record time*

@sanau That was me too! I had to switch to Drops because Duolingo had my anxiety level way up... Also the audio for the language I was doing became unintelligible and super compressed, so I couldn't even know what I was supposed to be saying.... But mostly the anxiety.

@theunabeefer I’ve mostly been chill about it lately. I stayed in the “obsidian league” for months because it was just competitive enough to keep me averaging more than just one lesson per day so I wouldn’t drop back, but I wasn’t tempted to go for promotion. Until this week, when I ended up with a bunch of other occasional users, got into the promotion zone without even trying, then couldn’t help myself and just went for it.

@sanau I was at the top of whatever that highest one was for a while, due to the French I had done a while back as a refresher (Learned it when I was young) and it kept me there when I switched to Mandarin... Eventually I was just making sure I didn't drop out of the league, but even that became too frantic for me.
They need to make an option to opt out of the competitive aspect!
