Kind of simple, but thought I'd share this "idea".
I have a late model MBP, went all out on memory and graphics when I ordered but only a 2TB drive. Now I seem to be running low for free space on the 2TB drive. I knew I would sooner than later when I ordered so NBD really. ...
Decide what apps to move or delete. Several Apple apps that don't get used too much. Pages, Numbers and Keynote are some.

I use an app called AppCleaner which does a great job of cleaning up all of your deleted apps and libraries hidden throughout the macOS system.
Since I may on occasion want to use these Apple products at some point. I moved them to an external Samsun pci-e SSD on a USB-C interface.
Move above Apps from Applications folder to external drive "Applications2" folder., create alias', drop alias' into Applications folder.
