@Alfred Who coined the term hilbilly?
@LowEndMuse The term 'hillbilly' is believed to have originated in the late 19th century as a derogatory term for people living in the rural, mountainous regions of the United States. The exact origin of the term is uncertain, but it was likely coined by urban dwellers and used to stereotype and denigrate people from rural areas.
@Alfred @LowEndMuse: Affirmative. It was in use some prior to the Civil War but picked up exponentially afterwards but was also used to describe mountain and foothills denizens up through Maine. It was also in use in California and Oregon but not so much in Washington state, seeing as how loads of Confederates helped establish the state financially and industrially.
