I thought @thedisasterautist's meme prompt today was pretty neat, but it is VERY hard to ask a writer to pick just a few good books.
Still, here goes nothing:
Top 30(ish: actually 34)
Books To Know Me Better
1. Elias Canetti, Crowds and Power
2. Stephen Jay Gould, Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale and the Nature of History
3. Lee Smolin, The Trouble with Physics
4. Alexander Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago
5. Svetlana Alexievich, The Unwomanly Face of War
1/x
@MLClark: It was quite difficult to winnow it down to thirty. It took about an hour.
I gave up trying to stick to 30 and slotted in some extras. I was happy you'd already covered The Emperor's New Mind. Absolutely essential book (it would've spared us a lot of nonsense AI discourse this past year, if more had read it!), but I shaved it off after much hemming and hawing, knowing that you'd even popped in the proper honorific for Roger already. ππ»
You had a damned fine list.
Thanks for the prompt. π
@MLClark: Sir Roger is the bomb. π―
Merci for digging my list. Yours is proper spiff as well. I snagged some titles from it to check out.
