@S_r_stone: The neoconservatives decried debt, debt-spending, and "just printing up money to balance the budget", but that's how they "created a robust economy". They decried "The Hippies" as selfish, petulant, lazy dolts with no financial discipline... while they spent with the national, state, and local credit cards like drunken sailors on 24-hour shore leave.

The neoliberals took that and ran with it, too.
