: When one confuses one's own excitement and enthusiasm for the reality of any number of situations and their outcomes, it's usually a recipe for disappointment, anger, resentment, and such. It's the other side of the "many of the things I lived in fear of were things that never happened anywhere but in my mind".

Just a thought that's crossed my mind since I was old enough to observe others over time and note the patterns.
