@Brisse Full disclosure, I bought several of these from PSI to turn for Christmas gifts. But the gift recipients won't necessarily be proficient in the kitchen. Some of them will just appreciate the name.
That said, I have used meat tenderizer mallets in the past and they have that coarse knurled face. I've never seen or heard of what is essentially a rather large flat hammer face for "pounding meat". It seems like it would splatter everywhere.
