@Museek I just discovered Buffy's music last week. And now all this controversy around her...it's perplexing.

Thanks for sharing this statement from her. I accept her story, and her explanation. I will not be a part of contentious accusations or counter-accusations.

I appreciate people who bring light and love to their communities and their audiences, and the people closest to her affirm that this is what she's done authentically for decades. She hasn't earned any further scrutiny from me.

@Museek So...I didn't dig into this more until I was confronted by the hurt and pain of some Indigenous people in my life.

There is very strong evidence to counter many/most of the claims in her statement. What I feel is so small compared to the depth of confusion and betrayal Indigenous people around me are feeling.

@sumpnlikefaith i understand.. many of the indigenous people in my life still support her. Mainly because they're more traditional and feel that it should never be about race when someone is accepted because one of the seven sacred ceremonies is the making of relatives. They feel the blood quantum will only hurt natives in the long run. Not everyone feels that way, of course. Particularly those within AIM groups. It seems she was adopted but she also wasn't truthful.

@sumpnlikefaith turns out she was truthful, they say.. she said she didn't know.

anyway.. its clear the majority of my people still love her...

I have always hated blood quantum requirements, also... we're more than our blood..

@Museek Thank you for engaging in these delicate matters with me, and helping me steer my thoughts and feelings surrounding this whole situation.

I am eagerly learning about so much of what has been hidden in plain sight, so to speak.

@sumpnlikefaith I think it’s a no win situation. I felt similarly about Elizabeth Warren who because she said there was native ancestry in her family got torn up. I understand not taking away but lifting voices is extremely important and cultural affiliation, to me, is more important, but documents frequently say “white” and are often inaccurate. Bottom line for me is we’re all related and something my grandfather said: spirit has no color. We should all lift native voices, though imho

@sumpnlikefaith at any rate, it’s a learning experience for everyone. People will have their opinions and I’m sorry if people feel hurt. I can certainly see how it would be so but different tribes have different values and if anything, this illustrates it, well. I sort of hope she does take a dna test, I think if it turned out that she was, then she’d have a much stronger case than Warren because of her string support and cultural ties. All this landed on native people because of history.

@Museek I'm with you. I think there is great value inherently in Indigenous wisdom and perspective.

There is also is an important corrective in lifting up voices who are victims of colonisation, supremacism and exploitation which have loudly dominated human history for far too long.
