Would it be because, like gravity, late-stage capitalism is pretty hard to stop unless you put something very robust in the way?

If you don't put meaningful regulation on what they do, corporations will always keep doing what makes them the most money, no matter how bad it might be in the long term.

It's inherent in the system 🤷‍♂️
