If US Police are to continue carrying firearms, it seems to me they need to look at the words "reasonable force". Even if it *were* a knife, fatally shooting a person is way over the top.

I've seen it from both angles, and lost friends on both sides. There's no good answer to this age old debate.
I knew a guy who charged a cop with a knife and got shot, but did they do enough to negotiate? I don't think so.
I also know a cop who was stabbed several times trying to taze a guy instead of shooting him. Would 2 to the head have saved his own life? I dunno.
