NFL coaches today are so impatient. It takes some time to learn from mistakes to become a really good QB.
Today, coaches just want to draft/trade for, their "franchise" QB and start winning right away.
HOF Terry Bradshaw was the overall #1 selection in the 1970 draft. He only started 4 games his first year and threw 26 interceptions.
HOF Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round in 2000. He started 0 games his first year and passed for 6 yds in his only first year appearance.

Andy Reed only played Pat Mahomes the last game of his rookie year after they were assured a playoff spot. First round selection rode the bench and learned during his rookie season, he turned out ok.
I really think players careers are made or lost based on what coach they are paired with, not just their ability.
