@sjvn Wow, I never cleaned floppies. Didn't even know that was a thing!

@LiberalLibrarian @sjvn I remember doing it for the 8", but not the 3.5". I honestly don't recall what we did for 5.25"

@sfleetucker The 8" was before my time. Started with the 5.25, then went to the 3.5. @sjvn

@LiberalLibrarian @sjvn by the time we got to 3.5" the mouse's balls were all I had to wash.

@LiberalLibrarian @sfleetucker I started with the 8" models. YOu had to clean those drive heads regularly to keep them in working trim.

@sfleetucker @LiberalLibrarian You had to clean the 525s as well, but not as often. I don't recall ever needing to clean a 3.5".

@sjvn 👍🏿 I do.

I also remember when the "BIG" 300MB disk drives were as big as washing machines and you could replace the heads yourself. You knew it was time when you came into work and heard a constant "skreeeeeee... sound.

@sjvn or else you could lose tens of bytes of data. Even a few hundred. It was horrible.

No really. Dirty write head effing up files and _the OS_. Horrible.
