The hacker who caused the FAA failure is revealed!

@sjvn

Ever hear of the great blackout of 1965? Someone in Canada opened a giant switch and just about the whole of New England went out. 🤣 It's mentioned in Massachusetts by the Bee Gees

“there’s a sale at Penney’s!”

Knowing what I know about air traffic control systems…

This is terrifyingly accurate.

Some of their systems are so old I wouldn’t be surprised if they use those old concrete cylinders as hard drives. Or punch cards.

Like, I’m pretty sure they predate DOS.

FAA has been “trying” to upgrade, but the FAA is also a perfect storm for resisting change.

@GlytchMeister A long time back, I covered the FAA computer modernization plans for Government Computer News. It was so obsolete it was scary then. And, it's still scary now.

@sjvn

I’m pretty sure the only reason the FAA hasn’t been hacked into oblivion by enemies of the US is because it’s barely connected to the internet (if at all) and nobody but a couple ancient fossils already employed by the FAA know how to hack computer systems that probably still use vacuum tubes and has less calculating power than a monkey with an abacus.

@sjvn

It’d be hilarious if it wasn’t so horrifying
