Canada friends:
I am looking for Programmer jobs in Canada, especially around Saskatchewan as I am looking to possibly relocate or immigrate. Looking at the Job Board shows me that I need a work permit / visa to apply for most positions. Any tips on how to find positions that will assist with work permits and / or visas?
@sirgeefive You're more likely to find programmer jobs in Ontario or British Columbia. Saskatchewan has a small but growing tech sector, check out Regina or Saskatoon the two major cities in that province. Good luck.
@Zevon The reason I am considering Saskatchewan is that I am able to purchase a house with cash. I don't want to be a burden on Canadian society, so I want to move to a place that I can reasonably afford to buy a house. BC would be my first choice due to growing up in Washington state and spending a lot of time there as a teen. The cost of living in BC can be somewhat prohibitive. It is more important to find a job than location, so I will definitely expand my job searches to BC. Thank you!
@sirgeefive You can buy several houses in Sask. for the price of a single home in BC. Your USD also is worth about 1/3 more than our dollar. So with real estate you could do very well and support yourself as a landlord too.
@sirgeefive The whole process starts with a company getting a LMIA(Labour Market Impact Assessment), once that is done, then the company can get you the visa required. Now I can tell you that the need for Programmers is most predominant in larger cities and Saskatchewan as a province is smaller than larger cities. The population of the entire province is about million!!!
Getting LMIA is long drawn out process.
@sirgeefive Here is government info link that can explain more
@sirgeefive call the employers who interest you and ask if they help applicants from the US relocate. Some do and can support your transfer.
