It look like they placed trans OathKeeper Jessica Watkins in the male part of the federal prison in Oklahoma City.
@jjmacnab I honestly don't know how to feel about this. Someone actively putting fascists in power who would destroy trans rights getting her rights destroyed, vs. the evil of misgendering people period.
@sfleetucker @jjmacnab That's one shitty trans person out of a group that mostly share none of her beliefs. The idea that she should be put in a male prison punishes her, but also punishes a whole bunch of other people who aren't shitty.
Her own individual views don't really dissuade me, they're not representative of any kind of majority. They're kind've a red herring.
@66ALW99 @jjmacnab understood. The conflict comes from the fact that she's advocating for a system that does just this. I'd be furious in every other case.
If the only way to avoid her experiencing the fruits of her own work was to guarantee that all trans people would be treated with respect and placed appropriately then the right call is to support having her placed in a jail that's appropriate to her gender.
@sfleetucker @jjmacnab what conflict? The wishes of individual prisoners vs the carceral system isn't really a 'conflict'.
There are rules governing how societies treat inmates, but they should be applied to everyone equally. Those rules are up for debate, but I don't think personal exemptions have much place.
