In lighter news, after I left my psych this afternoon, I saw an interesting church nearby and decided, despite it being an oven out there, to pause for some photo taking.
Yeah, Ms. "OMG these hot flashes are destroying me!" goes and spends 10 mins shooting during which time, not only did her iPhone start to overheat, but...why yes, a hot flash surged through her bones.
I'm one smart cookie, yes sir I is. But, I took some cool shots! 😂
The overheating phone was a totally new thing to me. I've never had that happen before, not even during all the road trips I've taken. About a week ago I stopped using the mag phone holder on my car because I noticed how hot the phone would be when I picked it off there, though at that point it wasn't showing the "ACK I'M MELTING!" alert.
@see_the_sus yep. I’ve been dumb and taken mine to the beach when traveling and same thing happens but it’s been happening here whenever I’m outside this week
I'm guessing it's only going to keep getting hotter this month?
Don't have A/C. Only have swamp cooler. It's fixed, but it sucks and doesn't actually cool anything down until 4 AM-ish most nights. Any other time, it just blows hot air around.
@XaoslordErie ugh. There’s going to come a point where those don’t work anywhere. @see_the_sus
The swamp cooler here is abysmal at best, even on a good day.
Having had such limited experience with them, I didn't realize the limitations when the temps get so damn hot. Which is why, I just chucked over money to get some window shade cling film. yay, love spending money on unfun stuff. 😖
@see_the_sus hopefully it helps though! @XaoslordErie
My main area of concern is my office, which faces west, cause even with the blackout curtains, it's still getting too warm in here.
Smitty loves snoozing in the living room atop the tower since it's up against the east-facing window but I've already told him that I'll be toning down the heat from that window too. LOL
Sorry, that's what I meant. I have a tendency to use them interchangeably and I knew you'd know what I meant.
No worries.
@see_the_sus so far it looks like it’s holding steady in the high 90’s to low 100’s on the forecast for highs. I was really hoping we would see some rain in the next few days. Clouds but nothing.
oh oh!!! I got a rain alert on my phone!!! Granted, it ended with "rain will be light." 😒
@see_the_sus same and nada
They tease us so viciously!! 😭
No rain here, either, not for next 10 days, but then, we hardly get any rain at all anyway.
I was bending over for the flower pics when I realized my ears and face were suddenly a lot hotter than they had been a second before. I started laughing and saying out loud, "What the hell are ya doing kiddo? It's fuckin' hot out here!" 🤣
(why yes, I have no shame about cussing outside a church, though I did quickly say, "Oh, excuse me." 😁 )
@see_the_sus ❤️ I'd have done the same!! Very cool!!
The old Catholic churches out here in the Southwest have always caught my eye. Their architecture and building materials are much more interesting to me than most churches built after the 19th century. I also love old Catholic cemeteries and try to visit a new one, to me, every year.
@see_the_sus I grew up in Santa Barbara where the Queen of California Missions was my daily place to explore! I also love old cemeteries!
@MichaelTalon we used to tear it up on that front grass on horseback playing Indians because across the street there's an old chumash village ! Once a Padre came out and everyone bailed but me , his name was Matea and i wa so scared but he just wanted to ride my pony :) I was so lucky to grow up in the time and place that I did :) There was even a commune up the hill from my street which was full of hippies artists and intellectuals it was a great place to be a curious kid!
I've wanted to go there for a long time and photograph the missions. It'd be a first for me to take pic's of ones that are still in one piece. 😆
@see_the_sus San Luis Obispo has a beautiful one too, it's a cool sprawled out complex with a truly gorgeous "cathedral" and that would be a great adventure, I think I've seen all of them but just as result of roaming the state throughout my life! Santa Barbara will always be the Queen though! Also I hate everything about the Mission/Padre culture and horror they inflicted but I do love the architecture! Santa Barbara has a lot of it throughout the city, even the courthouse is stunning!
I understand what you mean.
I get twinges of uncomfortableness with my admiration of old Catholic churches. My mom was abused as a child by a priest and went on to sue the Archdiocese of NM in 1990. My experience with the church, here in NM, was so crappy that I decided by the age of 9 that the nuns and priest didn't know what the fuck they were talking about and I was going to go my own path. My oldest brother chose atheism & he was only 12.
@see_the_sus My mom was a recovering catholic and imposed no religion on us. She had gone to a catholic girls boarding school named Marymount and yeah, there was some wicked stuff. She told me some of the funnier stories like getting in big trouble after getting picked to be the one who hid in the bathroom to see if Mother Superior peed !
🤣🤣
Thankfully my brothers and I attended Catholic school for only one year but it was enough to do some serious damage to our psyche.
@see_the_sus Nice! That overheating phone thing is a pain but the hot flashes are worse!
