Has anyone heard of EtreCheck to check for malware?

Today, my supposedly virus proof Mac Book Pro picked up some malware. I was looking at images of the Atlanta airport, went to blow one up, and suddenly I'm getting tons of "virus alert" notifications from McAffee or Norton that my coverage has expired. Don't have either.

I went to the Apple forum to look for answers, and several people recommended EtreCheck. Can one of our computer genius community please chime in?

@Superstitionsee I've not heard of EtreCheck, but I have used and am happy with Malware Bytes: malwarebytes.com

It sounds like something on the website. Check out the AdGuard plugin for Safari.

@scottlink thanks, I will check out the plug in. Not crazy about Safari, but have so many passwords stored there, and have been slow to change that.

@scottlink @Superstitionsee agreed. I'm very happy with that product altho I use PCs.
