Any ideas how to keep a cat from crawling up inside a recliner? My cat is nuts. We had recliners when he was a baby and he would crawl inside the back or go under them and almost get squished a bunch of times. We got rid of them because they were broken and it's been a few months before we got another one. Just got a used one from a friend and he's immediately up inside it. My mom is not gonna pay attention when she puts the footrest down.
@sarcasmsign might have to cut slits for the arms of the footrest to slide back etc but doable.
@MrGoat I didn't get a good look at the underside when we were bringing it in, but it's a leather chair and I don't think there's much wood exposed to staple to. But it's a start of an idea.
@sarcasmsign screws with caps or washers then.
@MrGoat I actually got a flashlight and looked under it and the screen is doable. There's enough exposed wood to staple it to, it'll just take some figuring out where to cut slits. ๐
@sarcasmsign I don't think there is a way, since the bottom has to be open for the mechanism to work.
You might try pinning a blanket around the bottom of the chair to try to close off access, but the cat can still crawl under it.
As a former upholster, chairs would normally have a CAMBRIC DUST COVER on the bottom. I suggest getting one. They are cheap and you could probably use hot glue or tacks to keep it on
@sarcasmsign Maybe sew a pocket into the back that is cat safe?
@MsJudyJetson It's a leather chair. He crawls under the back and then climbs up inside. He's kind of a jerk. ๐
@sarcasmsign CatLyfe, amirite?๐ ๐
@sarcasmsign Sometimes I crawl over the footrest and use my cat's favorite string on a stick toy to get him out. But, otherwise I have no idea how to keep them out.
@sarcasmsign Get a roll of heavy screen and staple it to the opening when the chair is up.
