Had an older client come in to get Heartgard for her dog because Chewy told her she had to get it from us. We denied her order request through Chewy because the dog hasn't had a heartworm test since 2015 and she only gives the preventative "in the summer." *Deep breath* Apparently because he's an indoor dog she doesn't think he can catch it. Guess what, folks? Mosquitos can come inside. Heartworm is $$$$$ to treat if they get it. Test and give the pill!

She might be living on SS. We take risks that others might not.

@LnzyHou True, but testing once a year vs having to spend over $1000 to treat a heartworm infection is a deal I would take. It's also not safe to give them the preventative if they *do* have an infection, so we kinda need to know. I'd hate for this lady's companion to suffer because she just didn't want to do it.

I was referring to heart worm meds summer only. My vet didn’t give us a choice. Abby was tested every year.
