October 1 - in 1982, Sony released the world’s first CD player in Japan

Compact Discs were invented through a partnership between Sony & Philips. Sony released the CDP-101 CD player in Japan earlier than the rest of the world as Philips couldn’t meet the agreed-upon launch date. Six months later, Philips released their own CD100 CD player
