There is quite a bit of chatter on Russian social media today about Transnistria, a self-declared nation inside of Moldova's borders.

Here's why the chatter matters.

1️⃣ Moldova, a nation of 2.5 million people, is becoming closer to the West and sees Russia as a threat.

2️⃣ Transnistria's President Vadim Krasnoselsky has appealed to Russia for protection, saying Moldova has an economic blockade on Transnistria.

3️⃣ There are Russian forces in the unrecognized country, which they claim are "peacekeepers."

4️⃣ Krasnoselsky claims that 220,000 ethnic Russians live within the "borders" of Transnistria. The ethnic Russian argument is one of several Putin used to launch his full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

5️⃣ Moldova's President Maia Sandu is giving serious thought to joining a broader military alliance.

@just3nanalysis oy. So if Putin can take Ukraine, Moldova will surely be next, eh?
