Just recently switched to Linux, friend?
@justresister Yep. I tried it out on an old machine I'm fixing to recycle & liked it so much I put it (dual-boot style) on my new PC.
@justresister Nice! I just did a bog-standard ubuntu install, so... I think Gnome?
I kind of like not having to know, frankly. =D
Have ya tried Cinnamon Desktop? It's pretty sweet.
Cinnamon is great. I have another laptop running Manjaro Cinnamon.
But god's honest truth, Solus Budgie is the only version of Linux that I haven't been able to break. I've been running this damn thing since Mar 2019 (TWO YEARS!!) without ever borking my system.
Ubuntu and Mint (Ubuntu-based) are just to easy (for me) to break. LOL
I just got a Raspberry Pi 4 and installed Nextcloud on it.
Now all of my Contacts, Calendars, Tasks, etc and all of my email and any files I want are uploaded and stored there.
That was a ton of fun setting up.. I feel FREE! :D
@rpardee
It's better if you know.
There are two big Desktop Environments.. Gnome and KDE.
The default DE for Ubuntu is Gnome so that is what you are using. But the Gnome store is full of outdated programs and it is very easy to pick up libraries that conflict with each other.
I only say this as someone that started Linux in 2015 and broke MANY, MANY, MANY different distros.
