Here's a bi-partisan issue most Americans would agree on: Increasing the penalty on scam calls.

I bet Bezos could take them both.

Until now they only fought in the who could pay less taxes arena.

Settling takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the cash to carry me
And soon I will be free

Fantasy, it gets the best of me
When I'm settling
All caught up in the strategy, every word is a testimony
Won't you believe me?

Is EdgeGPT content restricted?

Well, it's not far down to justice, at least it's not for me
And if the case is right you can settle away and find security
Oh, the lawyers can do miracles, just you wait and see
Believe me

It's not far to never-never land, no reason to defend
And if the case is right you can find the joy of innocence again
Oh, the lawyers can do miracles, just you wait and see

Seeing a lot of "Fox won" type sentiments here.

As true as it might be re the coffee stirrer budget for a huge corp like Fox, lets be clear paying the better part of a billion dollars is a loss no matter how you clock it.

Dominion is private-equity-owned, they ran the numbers and scored it as a win.

My wife, god bless her, reminded me that this not the SDNY case, as that's coming later, she points out it's the Manhattan DA bringing the case.

I worried if its a NY city court the jury could be a bunch of Staten Islanders... No ,turns out that's Richmond county, different DA. This is the "NY" county court.

The Jury is going to be made up of Manhattanites only.

Good f'n luck getting a sympathetic jury. Assuming they do run out of Juror challenges at some point.

Toast.

In the case I served, that was what made the difference, the defendant caught red handed colluding to lie.
I'm sure the defense will be more competent than the case I heard, but I can't imagine what the theory will be that makes the defendant's communications to the CFO of his own company explicitly telling him to lie about the nature of the payments shine in any light but guilty as charged.

They have notes showing conspiracy to lie about the nature of payments including paying the lawyer extra to cover his taxes so he can be made whole while falsely claiming the money as income. In my case the brother of the defendant, and co-conspirator pled guilty, a lot like what's happening here.

I've read the Statement of Facts for the indictment and as a recent Juror on a conspiracy fraud + conspiracy money laundering case in SDNY, it looks pretty tight. <thread>

I was a juror in a trial in SDNY last month (we found guilty on all charges btw, conspiracy fraud + conspiracy money laundering.)
I enjoyed the experience but now I feel like I really lost the lotto by one digit on being at the right place at the right time.

I love getting a box from Harry and David every x-mas.

But I'm still on the Peppers and Onion relish from two years ago vs the Moose Munch which barely makes it through the weekend.

No paranoia req'd, it is pretty obviously examples of influence ops paying off for our enemies.
