iron maiden was supposedly formed in 1975, but their 1st album was released in 1980, so let's use 80
The Book of Souls was released in 2015...THIRTY FIVE YEARS after their 1st album...and it contains (arguably) one of the top 5 songs ever by them...I'm trying to think of any other band to accomplish such a feat

Although Rush has called it a career, and Maiden carries on.
@opie few bands have accomplished the longevity these two have, while putting out new material. For the most part it's due to their cult-like fan bases and how each band truly enjoys creating music.
Yes, I'm a pretty big fan of Clockwork Angels. I primarily like the early albums, but CA really feels like something they had been building up to for a decade or so.
i'll give CA another listen...gave it a few spins when it came out, saw the tour, and it's been out of mind since
