not sure about "did the most". we definitely had the highest cost in human lives. but that cost was not because of Germans, it was due to the soviet government using people as cannon fodder. there is an infamous saying "the [derogatory term for women] will give birth to more"

yeah, there is a lot of things they still deny in russia. the major problem, as many think (including me) is not that they did it at some point, but that they deny it or believe they had and still have the right to do it over and over again. admitting mistakes and wrongdoings are critical first step without which the change will never come
I agree, I think the denial is by design and serves a (sick and twisted) purpose as it creates a well-worn groove of repeating the colonial / genocidal pattern - which is totally unacceptable.
I do wonder, could a reckoning of Russian Imperialism be coming?

I certainly hope so. Russian imperialism has clunked along for hundreds of years now, and has drenched the world in millions of gallons of blood.

Also never forget that the Red Army co-invaded Poland along with the Nazi Army because Nazi Germany and the Soviets had their secret little genocidal partnership before Germany broke it. There’s a joke somewhere that it’s the only treaty Russia didn’t break.
The Russian Army is literally doing the same war crimes and tactics now as it has historically.
Wondering if there will finally be a reckoning, thanks to Ukrainian bravery against the invader.
