Germany declares Ukraine's Holodomor famine a genocide.
Every horrific crime against humanity should be recorded and acknowledged. Think about this:
- Holodomor. Deaths: Around 3.9 million Ukrainians.
My grandparents were Holodomor survivors. We have family stories about it. It affected even me (third gen). We remember. 🕯️

My grandparents saw trains sitting at the stations, full of rotting grain, confiscated from starving Ukrainians.
My father used to say that Ukraine is so fertile that the only hunger ever possible in Ukraine is men-made. There was no widespread hunger in the history of Ukraine recorded before or after soviets.
@rakshy and the Soviets were kind enough to continue pillaging their colonies' food harvests, shipping them on full trains to mother russia while people waited in lines for hours for a rationed piece of bread in the oppressed countries. That this practice, to a smaller degree than the Holdomor but with similar tactics, continued in plain sight for decades without a much of a peep from human rights groups is 🤯

@peeppeepcircus yeah, unfortunately, Holodomor was one of the crimes in a long chain, rather than an outlier event.
even tho I condemn West's politics regarding USSR (politics of enabling), I highly appreciate the sacrifices that separate citizens made to bring the truth to the light. People like Gareth Jones.

@peeppeepcircus heh, it's easy to stand on the top of the hill, look down and say - "hey, you took the wrong path!"
it's much harder to be the one who tries to climb the mountain on their own. through the deep darkness.
but.. I also really like and welcome the conversations and self-reflection that is currently happening. it's a vital and necessary thing for change to take roots. 💛 💙 thank you for that, it is seen and appreciated!
@rakshy it's true, the silence was deafening overall. imo the bravery of #Ukraine today, against a genocidal invasion and all the evils it brings, is also slowly exposing #RussianColonialism to the world. I truly hope the Ukrainian victory will be a tipping point for the world on a path to more freedom.
