My sister just called and tried to wish me a Happy Thanksgiving:
She tried to get my parents to talk to me.
My Dad was in the background yelling at her to hang up and "stop talking to the communist traitor" and yelling loudly "stay in Germany with the rest of the Nazi's if you hate being in America so much you dumb bxxxx".
This is the man who taught me to ride a bike, ride a horse, shoot a gun, drive a car, look after my siblings, and love myself. 😞
I go home in a few weeks.
I'm scared.
@quinnsentialOne I'm so sorry - that's awful. A good friend of mine lost their own father to Fox News and ended up cutting ties with him completely. That might not be right for you, but maintaining toxic relationships with anyone is very taxing on emotional and mental health. Boundaries are so important to both, but society is constructed in a way that enforcing them with close family members is often taboo,

My friends saved me, I need to do the same for my family.
I don't know if I could ever cut ties with my parents, they would force the rest of the family that does talk to me to cut me out entirely.
I couldn't make a life without my sister in it.
