I greet the end of the weekend with a special kind of sadness. I have one more week off and then I go back to work on Feb 12 - not because I am recovered enough, but because for the time I have been out, my pay has been docked $9600. That is just lost income. There are hospital bills also. So I will go back to work before my body is ready.

🥺 Can you talk with the hospital’s finance office to see if they’ll reduce your bill? Several years ago I was able to get my large bill cut in half because I wasn’t making enough from my job.

I am getting hospital bills in drips and drabs. The amount in my post is lost income for being out. I have no idea what the total bill amount from the hospital will add up to - they are billing in increments it seems. Still haven't seen a bill for the big surgery.

I got lucky by going to a "Not For Profit Hospital". I didn't know it ahead of time but it made a huge difference after the bills came in because they were happy to negotiate - and extra lucky because it was the best hospital in the area.

When dealing with medical bills, the worry is real - Good luck Mel.

I didn't either. A nurse at my tiny local hospital whispered it to me when I logged concern about cost. She told me the tiny local and the big hospital in the next town were both "NFP" and I had to ask her to explain. Then a "Nurse Navigator" was assigned to me. She further added there were also many different programs available depending on my specific disease, as well as other programs based on income, or lack of income since Im self employed & wouldn't be working
