In our town, there has been an effort by Christian nationalists to deny the opportunity to run for another term on the local Library Board to a local pastor, because he supports queer people. He is also married to a man, but they didn't come out and say that. Mayor kept it under wraps, didn't allow the side supporting the pastor to weigh in, then decided to remove said pastor from the ballot for the Library Board. ++
@publickovacs It's gone :(
@Tattoomonkey29
Holy fuck
@Tattoomonkey29
I can still see it and folks are interacting with it
@Tattoomonkey29
Fuuuuuck I cannot share the post here
Here is our fucking City Council and my letter
@Tattoomonkey29
And here is the letter the bigots wrote
@publickovacs That last sentence was a threat! @Tattoomonkey29
@stueytheround
Yes. I may or may not currently be working on an opposing presence at the Council meeting on Monday
@publickovacs @stueytheround What a sad bunch of nonsense.
@publickovacs ā¤ļø wonderful and I hope that it helps!!
@publickovacs The link comes up broken or removed. ā¹ļø
@Avalea
If you look farther down among the responses, I added the letter and the link to the City Council and the link to the bigots' letter
@publickovacs To save you typing extra letters, someone here coined (or mentioned) the term "Christianist". I have taken to using it to differentiate radical extremist Christians from regular, Jesus-following Christians in the same way that "Islamist" is used for radical Muslim extremists.
These asses are definitely Christianists!
@stueytheround
I will be borrowing that term for sure!
@stueytheround @publickovacs I've been using that term for years. It just seemed a fair adaptation of all of the "Islamist" references in the media! Hope we can get it into mainstream usage. š
Those of us who support the pastor in question, only found out today about all of this. I did something I very rarely do: stood up to my full political science Ph.D. height in a letter and sent it to the Mayor. Then put it on Facebook, along w the link to the City Council, and made the post public and now friends are sharing it. And if you are so inspired, so can you:
