My wife finished her Master's Degree in 1995. Today - we made the last payment on her student loan. We're both 68 years old.

My own experience was entirely different. I spent six years in the US Navy prior to going to college. I went through college on the GI Bill. When I walked across the stage and received my diploma, my degree was already 100% paid for.

@paxterrarum Well congratulations, kind of.
28 years of debt for an education is insane!

@paxterrarum My dad did that as well for his medical school - served as a Navy doctor (Lt.Cmdr) in San Diego taking care of folks coming back from Korea. Such a wonderful program❤️

CmBelated congratulations to your wife. Earning a Master’s is a big accomplishment. I’m just sorry it was so expensive.

@paxterrarum That is crazy. But, I am glad to hear you are now paid off.

@paxterrarum Major congratulations! It's infuriating that it has taken so many years. I still have a long way to go 😭

@paxterrarum congratulations - that sucker should have never needed to be a loan. I wish they would just cancel the remainder of all debt still outstanding.
