Walmart is recalling nearly 10,000 cases of apple juice as a result of inorganic arsenic levels that exceed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standard set last year.

The recall, which was initiated Aug. 15, includes 9.535 cases of Great Value apple juice.

The apple juice is packaged in six-packs of 8-ounce plastic bottles, with UPC barcode 0-78742-29655-5. The products have a “best used” date of Dec. 28, 2024.

@nursefrombirth With a sell by date in Dec 2024 and was likely manufactured in in 2023. Arsenic occurs most often from the soil the apples are grown in. Many places along the chain from apples to Walmart that this could have been caught. FDA recalls used to be a stop gap when food safety systems failed. Frequency of these event would make it look like companies are relying on the FDA to catch them and either aren't testing or are ignoring bad lab results. (Retired research/food chemist)

@Lucky188 You make a valid point. There should always be belts and suspenders, right? These safety measures are paramount to our wellbeing and it's disturbing that the FDA is the "end all be all" It's makes more sense to perform various checks along the way, whatever those checks may be. IMHO
