TIME and TIME for Kids Name the 2024 Kid of the Year: 15-Year-Old Scientist Heman Bekele

Bekele tells TIME: β€œI’m really passionate about skin-cancer research…. whether it’s my own research or what’s happening in the field. It’s absolutely incredible to think that one day my bar of soap will be able to make a direct impact on somebody else’s life. That’s the reason I started this all in the first place.”

@nursefrombirth Uhhh... for something like that, I think $25k is a shitty prize. Add an extra 0 to that payout there bubbas!

@GrumpyWolf I agree. It's estimated that we spend 8.1 billion annually on treatment for skin cancer. I'd say another 0 or a few more 0's would be appropriate. πŸ€”

@nursefrombirth

He’s an insightful, creative thinker! And his solution is so simple, yet elegant.

@nursefrombirth This is wonderful. I just hope it doesn't turn get bought up by some Corp and then cost a thousand bucks for each bar of soap or something like that.
