🧐Cannabis consumers who caught COVID had 'better outcomes and mortality' than non-consumers, study finds

“Marijuana users had better outcomes and mortality compared to non-users,” the study says, suggesting that the observed benefits might result from cannabis's “potential to inhibit viral entry into cells and prevent the release of proinflammatory cytokines.”

@nursefrombirth I heard rumours early on in the pandemic but assumed they were probably nothing more than that.

@stueytheround I've followed some researchers. I heard early on about cannabis keeping the virus from entering the cells. They only had an idea at that time but there were better outcomes for that group. I guess they finally have a study to back it up.

I remember reading the same studies. iirc, a few mentioned how cannabis inhibits the ace2 receptors, which is the main mechanism for covid infection. And I believe I read something about anti-inflammatory properties of cbd and terpenes in cannabis and oil.

@nursefrombirth I can’t attest to any truth, but as a “heavy” cannabis user during the pandemic, I never once had a positive COVID test, or COVID that I knew of.
