I remember back in the 1990s there was a "landmark" study that was much ballyhooed, and it said, "Children can be cruel and awful and be so on purpose." The news media acted surprised and amazed, and everyone else on Earth thought it "WTaF, y'all? Duh!"

@nursefrombirth yes, they have to "work" harder actually to overcome the hurdles and constantly self reassure themselves or discipline themselves in a way that certain things are alright to enjoy and to let go.
