Question #2
What Causes Prediabetes?
Insulin is a hormone made by your pancreas that acts like a key to let blood sugar into cells for use as energy.
If you have prediabetes, the cells in your body don’t respond normally to insulin. Subsequently, the pancreas makes more insulin to try to get cells to respond.
Eventually, your pancreas can’t keep up, and your blood sugar rises, setting the stage for prediabetes—and type 2 diabetes down the road.
Question #4
What is Type I Diabetes?
If you have type 1 diabetes, your pancreas doesn’t make insulin or makes very little. Insulin helps blood sugar enter the cells.
Without insulin, blood sugar can’t get into cells and builds up in the bloodstream. High blood sugar is damaging to the body and causes many of the symptoms and complications of diabetes.

Question #5
What is type II Diabetes?
With type 2 diabetes, your body doesn’t use insulin well and can’t keep blood sugar at normal levels. About 90-95% of people with diabetes have type 2.
It develops over many years and is usually diagnosed in adults (but more and more in children, teens, and young adults).
Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed with healthy lifestyle changes, such as:
Losing weight.
Eating healthy food.
Being active.

Question #3
What are the risk factors for prediabetes/diabetes?
You can have prediabetes for years but have no clear symptoms, so it often goes undetected until serious health problems such as type 2 diabetes show up.
It’s important to talk to your doctor about getting your blood sugar tested if you have any of the risk factors for prediabetes, which include:
